The Defensive Driving Program provides individuals who have received a minor traffic ticket an opportunity to attend a driver education class and have one eligible charge dismissed without appearing in court. Driving skills and knowledge of rules of the road can be improved by attending a DDP class.
Eligibility
- The program can be attended only once within a two-year period from violation date to violation date.
- The traffic ticket is for a minor moving violation, including photo enforcement violations.
- The charge did not result from an accident where a death or serious physical injury was involved.
- The DDP class must be completed at least seven (7) calendar days before your court date.
- The violator does not hold a commercial driver license (CDL).
Register for a defensive driving program course
- Schedule a class within five calendar days of receiving your complaint. Visit Defensive Driving Schools, Information for Arizona or call the automated phone line at 1-888-334-5565 for information regarding the different Arizona Supreme Court Certified Schools from which you may choose to attend either an on-line or classroom course.
- You may attend any school outside of Arizona after you ensure the non-Arizona school has been approved by an Arizona Supreme Court Certified Defensive Driving School.
- To receive credit for attending a DDP class, you will have to provide the school with:
- Your driver license or government issued ID
- Your copy of the Arizona Traffic Ticket and Complaint
- Court extension notice (a must if you are completing a class after the court date on your complaint)
- An out-of-state packet issued by an Arizona Supreme court certified school if you are attending a class in a state outside of Arizona.
- A money order or cashier's check (NO cash, personal checks, or credit cards) for school fees
- Complete the class as scheduled. The school will notify the Court of your class completion.
