News Conference Announcing New Infill Development in Northwest Phoenix

March 23, 2011

WHAT: The former El Caro Golf Course, once occupied on a 16-acre parcel of land in the northwest part of Phoenix, is being revitalized into a multi-use development that will eventually include nearly 500 residential units and several retail spaces.

The first phase is currently underway and includes overall infrastructure development and landscaping.  The first tenant is expected to open this summer.

“We’re taking a large, blighted piece of property in the core of northwest Phoenix and developing a nice mixed-use community that will eventually be accessible to light rail once it gets extended to that area,” said Councilman Claude Mattox, who represents the area.  “Those who live there will have more options than they currently have.”

Developer Michael Lieb bought the property after the golf course was shut down in 2008.  From there he worked closely with neighbors – nearby residents and business owners alike – to decide what was needed for the community.  “We brought everyone into the process to create a project that’s a win-win for everyone,” Lieb said.  Potential future tenants include several restaurants and a health club.
