City Launches Enhanced Volunteer Program Website

July 18, 2011

Residents interested in assisting with libraries and parks programs, providing customer service at city facilities such as Sky Harbor International Airport or serving on boards and commissions have a new website to help them find volunteer opportunities in the city of Phoenix.

The new site, myvolunteerphoenix.org, was created in partnership with Cities of Service, a coalition of mayors formed in 2009 to promote volunteerism in local governments, and includes information on more than 45 volunteer opportunities in 10 city departments, 2 internships and numerous boards and commissions.  The site contains customer-friendly functionality such as allowing users to search for opportunities based on areas of interest and skills, an online application process, and a contact page to allow interested residents to send inquiries directly to city staff who oversee the volunteer program.

“Engaging our residents in service opportunities provides them with the ability to get involved directly in their community, while helping the city of Phoenix maintain service levels our residents are accustomed to,” said Cynthia Aguilar, City Service Officer. “The new website will make it easy for residents to find and apply for volunteer opportunities citywide.”

More information about the city’s volunteer program, including how to subscribe to an email list to keep up to date on volunteer opportunities and to receive copies of the bimonthly Volunteer Program Newsletter, is available at phoenix.gov/volunteer or by sending an email to volunteer@phoenix.gov.
