Councilwoman Williams Elected New Chair of Phoenix-Mesa Airport Authority

July 30, 2010

Councilwoman Thelda Williams has been elected chairwoman of the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport Authority. The Airport Authority elects the chairperson and other officers from the five board members on an annual basis. Each member has a single board seat and vote.  The Airport Authority is comprised of its neighboring municipalities: Gilbert, Mesa, Phoenix, Queen Creek and the Gila River Indian Community.

"I am honored to serve as chairwoman of the Authority. Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport is one of the fastest growing airports in the nation. It provides air service to non-traditional cities, thus filling an important niche in the market," said Councilwoman Williams.

The airport was established in 1994 and is owned and operated by the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport Authority.

Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport offers nonstop passenger service via Allegiant Air with flights to more than 20 cities nationwide. For more information, visit phxmesagateway.org.
