The public is invited to attend an inauguration ceremony for the Phoenix City Council at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 4, at the Phoenix City Hall atrium, 200 W. Washington St.
Three councilmembers who were re-elected in September, Peggy Neely, District 2; Tom Simplot, District 4; and Michael Johnson, District 8, will take their oath of office, along with newly-elected District 6 Councilman Sal DiCiccio.
All the councilmembers will be sworn in by Mayor Phil Gordon. The following family members will hold the Bible during the ceremony:
- Neely: Brian Neely, husband
- Simplot: Jon, Cheryl, Clint and Marissa Simplot, family members
- DiCiccio: Debbie, wife and Anna and Emilia, twin daughters
- Johnson: Anton Ragsdale, Tanisha Johnson, Latoya Johnson, children.
The councilmembers will give brief remarks and be presented with an election certificate.
The ceremony also will include the Phoenix Fire Department Color Guard and the Paradise Valley High School Jazz Band. The invocation will be given by Charles Coppinger with the Community Church of Hope and Rabbi Robert L. Kravitz with the Jewish Family & Children’s Service will deliver the benediction. Mayor Gordon will serve as master of ceremonies.
Following the event, there will be an open house and reception on the 11th floor of City Hall.
