As the New Year approaches, Councilman Michael Nowakowski wants to remind residents that using consumer fireworks is prohibited in Phoenix, with the exception of novelty items.

The use of fireworks in Phoenix is now a Class 1 Misdemeanor punishable by up to $2,500 and/or six months in jail.  A list of legalized, novelty fireworks and prohibited fireworks is available online at phoenix.gov/fire or phoenix.gov/district7.

“There always is a reason to celebrate the arrival of a New Year, but a celebration should not include the use of illegal fireworks” said Councilman Nowakowski, a member of the Public Safety and Veterans Subcommittee.  “It’s dangerous and could result in injuries or a fire.”
