Councilman Simplot Hosts Successful Outdoor Movie
The summer season was ushered in by Councilman Tom Simplot and about 1,000 of his central Phoenix friends at the premiere of "Movies Under the Stars" at Steele Indian School Park on Sunday, May 30.
The free movie event featuring "The Princess Bride" was well received with applause as the credits rolled. The first 300 movie fans were greeted with free ice cream donated by Bashas' Markets, making the event even sweeter.
"It was great seeing people of all ages enjoying a family film and the great weather Phoenix is known for," Simplot said. "With such a phenomenal response, we now need a few corporate film aficionados to purchase the outdoor screen so that these events can occur on an on-going basis. Phoenix was made for outdoor film viewing," he said.
The 32' x 26' outdoor screen has a purchase price of approximately $50,000.
